Some early season tick and mosquito observations in vermont

It’s early May and while it seems like we should be seeing some warmer days….we are just kind of chugging along in a cycle of cool, wet weather. We are looking forward to driving the service vehicles with the windows down but looks like it might be a few more days for that. Fingers crossed.

What we’ve been seeing in our early Spring travels to treat properties around Lamoille, Washington and Chittenden counties is the wet conditions creating sort of an ideal environment for both ticks and mosquitoes. Ticks love a moist leafy layer and moist grasses to hide in and mosquitoes are going to find plenty of low wet areas around properties to continue their breeding cycle.

We’ve been in Essex, Stowe, Morrisville, Hardwick, Waterbury, Burlington, Williston and other towns and the ticks have been very active all over while mosquitoes are starting to make themselves known depending on your proximity to water. Calls are coming in from numerous towns and the wet weather is a big contributing factor.

A couple simple tips to reduce the habitat these pests can thrive in. Remember to keep your yard tidy, removing leaves and trimming lawn and taller grasses. Eliminate standing water as much as you can and change over water in any water features, bird baths, etc.

TruCare can help reduce the population of ticks and mosquitoes around your Vermont home or business taking an all-natural approach to treating these dangerous pests. Give us a call or fill out our contact form to learn more or get a free estimate for service. Here’s to warmer days ahead.
